Ackeem Blake and Briana Williams of the Titans Track Club won the men’s and women’s invitational 60-metre races at the Camperdown Classic 2023 event held at the National Stadium in Kingston on Saturday.
According to the World Track website, Ackeem Blake narrowly defeated Yohan Blake, his training partner and the 2011 World 100m champion, to win the men’s 60 meters.
Yohan finished slightly behind Ackeem with a timing of 6.64 seconds, which lost to Ackeem’s time of 6.63 seconds. A lot of Jamaica’s rising high school stars were on display at the Camperdown Classic 2023 event, while some pros also took advantage of the occasion to launch their seasons.
On the other hand, Williams, who won gold in the women’s 4x100m relay at the 2021 Olympics, established the standard with a strong winning time of 7.22 seconds. The 20-year-old showed that things have been going well so far with her great performance to start the new season after recently relocating to Jamaica to train locally with Yohan Blake.
Williams comfortably beat Rohanna Wright of Swept TC and Jura Levy of Legacy Athletics, who finished in second place with a time of 7.34 seconds.
Williams expressed her pleasure about her preparation in an interview after her race, expressing that she has been loving her training with sprint champion Blake and going on to mention that her objective for the evening was to improve on the 100-m run but based upon her results, her objective was seemingly being met.
