Bob Marley’s old Range Rover will be included in an auction on March 26 at the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration show. The show will take place at the NEC, Birmingham, England.Marley’s ownership was confirmed when the registration document containing his name, Robert Nesta Marley, was found. The 1980 classic had three doors and was originally in Masai Red but was later painted in a unique mixture of green, black, and blue, allegedly by his kids.
The vehicle is currently not in the finest condition as it is crusty and appears to be an old stunt vehicle. The engine has been disassembled and placed in the back of the jeep, despite the clock displaying only 62,920 miles. It will be on auction in its current condition.
The Range Rover was launched the same year the Reggae superstar was touring his final album, Uprising, with his band. He reportedly purchased his Rover during the same period when the classic “Redemption Song” was released.
Marley was said to have owned two Range Rovers. The Classic, however, came to Jamaica from Germany after being shipped there from Birmingham, England. Before Bob died prematurely at age 36, the vehicle was ferried regularly between Jamaica and England.Bob Marley, known around the world for songs like “Redemption Songs,” “War,” Get Up Stand Up,” “One Love,” and “Stir It Up,” among many others, reportedly died of Melanoma in 1981.
