A visa waiver agreement is to be implemented between Ghana and Jamaica.
The announcement was made by Prime Minister Andrew Holness and President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at a press conference yesterday (June 15).
The Ghanaian president is in Jamaica on a two-day official working visit which forms part of a Caribbean tour to promote ‘The year of return, Ghana 2019’, which is a major campaign targeting the African – American and diaspora market to mark 400 years of the first enslaved Africans arriving in Jamestown, Virginia.
Mr. Holness says the visit reflects the continued strong bilateral relationship between Jamaica and Ghana adding that the relations are deeply rooted in ancestral and historic connections forged over many years.
Mr. Holness says the discussions focused on how to improve trade and the movement of people among other issues.
Referring to the visa waiver agreement he notes that work is moving quickly on this issue.Meantime President Akufo-Addo says his delegation is returning to Ghana with concrete decisions and initiatives to be put into action. He says visas should not stand in the way of relations between the countries.
